  • Void Tyrant iOS bug fixes

Void Tyrant on iOS was just updated to 1.3.7, mainly a billing and services update, and with that some nasty bugs were fixed. This was a response to some reports that came specifically from players having issues when doing in-app purchases with iOS version 26.4.2 and above.

Sorry for the delay in this fix. I’ve been on sick leave for some time, but back at it now.

  • About Drifters & Demons

I just wanted to write a short post to announce that Drifters & Demons is no longer in development. It has been a fun project to work on for me, and it was great to work with Armor Games again, after Void Tyrant.

I think the game holds a lot of promise in its mix of action and base-building, but unfortunately the project grew a little bit too big for what the funds would stretch to, and I wouldn’t be able to finish it to a high quality level within the time that remained.

There’s always a small chance that the project would resurface in the future if the right conditions arise, but for now there are no plans to work on it.

In the immediate future I’ll be working on other game projects, client work and prototyping, so if you’re interested in my work, keep an eye out.

    See ya!

  • Guardian Rock

I’ve updated Guardian Rock, after more than 15 years! There was a whole bunch on levels (48 of them) locked behind the old Mochi Coins microtransaction system, which has been defunct for many years. So I made them available to everyone.

Maybe there’s someone out there that still remembers this old game? Anyways, thanks also to Newgrounds for enabling Ruffle so that it is playable again 😀

    Play Guardian Rock on Newgrounds.

  • Spelkalaset 2025

A little late, but I thought I’d post a photo from the Drifters & Demons showcase at Spelkalaset in Hudiksvall, Sweden. Great fun, and lots of insight gained! It was also nice to get to know a few more local game developers. Thanks to Hudiksvalls kommun for inviting me.

  • Tools

Like many game developers, I often get questions about what tools I use in my work. So here’s my current set:

    Game Engines

    • Unity
    • Defold

I’m learning Defold and I am trying to move to that, at least for some projects. I’ve been impressed with Defold for how clean and fast it is, and with great results for web games.

Unity is good and has a wealth of available learning resources and assets. But the editor can be pretty slow. And since Unity Technologies is a public company, the game developers that are using the engine will not be their first priority. The company has sometimes acted in a volatile way and has been inconsistent with their user terms.

I’ve used many other engines in the past and I’ve released games using Flash, Construct, and GameMaker. They all had their own unique pros and cons.

    Art

    • Illustrator
    • Affinity Photo
    • Aseprite
    • Blender

Adobe is another giant I’m trying to move away from. I think their subscription models are way too inflexible. And when they launch new features, they rarely appeal to me. They also keep pushing AI tools and cloud services to the front, and I’ve got no interest in any of that. I’ve managed to shed everything apart from Illustrator, which I’ve had a hard time replacing.

Affinity Photo works pretty well for me as a Photoshop alternative, and Aseprite is great for pixel art. It is rare that I do any 3D, but if I do it will be in Blender.

    Animation

    • Spine
    • Blender
    • Aseprite

Spine is fantastic for skeletal animations, and so is Aseprite for pixel art frame-by-frame animation.

    Music / Audio

    • Renoise
    • Audacity

I’ve been using trackers for a long time, so Renoise works really well for me. I also like Plogue‘s soft synths.

    Other

    • Tiled
    • Obsidian
    • LibreOffice

I keep coming back to Tiled for level editing, LibreOffice for writing, and Obsidian has been great for project management and notes.

  • Drifters & Demons

I’m happy to announce that I’m working on a new game project together with Armor Games Studios: a top-down shooter / base-builder set in a demon-infested wilderness. The game is currently being developed for Steam/PC. More info soon, but for now there’s a bit of info here, and a bit of early video capture here:
